Characteristics of type 1 and type 2 myocardial infarction.
Cardiac muscle tissue contains approximately four to six milligrams of troponin I and 10 to 11 milligrams of troponin T in one gram. Approximately 95% of this amount is part of the troponin complex (structural troponin fraction) and both participate in myocardial contractile function. The other 5% of troponin I and T molecules of total troponins are located directly in the cytosol of myocardial cells (cytoplasmic fraction of troponins), and do not regulate the contractile activity of cardiac muscle tissue [7].
In the context of the improvement of laboratory methods for the determination and creation of so-called high-sensitive immunoassays for the detection of troponin I and troponin T (hs-cTnI and hs-cTnT), diagnostic capabilities and promising directions for future research have been significantly expanded [1],[8],[12]. In particular, the possibility emerged to determine lower concentrations of troponin I and T molecules that had previously remained invisible to moderately sensitive immunoassays.

Método: estudio descriptivo y transversal que incluyó 99 historias clínicas con diagnóstico de infarto de miocardio al alta de la UCI. Se describieron las variables y se realizaron análisis de varianza y pruebas de Chi2, utilizando un valor p inferior a 0,05 para las diferencias estadísticamente significativas.
Resultados: la prevalencia de infarto de miocardio en la UCI fue del 11,8%. La edad media fue de 66,8 años. El dolor torácico estuvo presente en el 82,8% con una duración media de 335 minutos. El dolor se irradiaba con mayor frecuencia al brazo izquierdo (13,1%). El infarto de miocardio sin elevación del segmento ST fue el más frecuente (50,5%), y el electrocardiograma localizó los infartos en la superficie inferior en el 28,2%. La media de troponina I ultrasensible fue de 28,2 ng/mL. El 54,5% tuvo complicaciones. La mortalidad fue del 14,1%. La estancia hospitalaria fue de 6,5 y la de cuidados críticos de tres días. Hubo una relación estadísticamente significativa entre el dolor torácico y la elevación del segmento ST (p<0,001) y entre la troponina I más la estancia hospitalaria y la elevación del segmento ST (p=0,007 y p=0,003, respectivamente).
