University of illinois at chicago careers

Finding and getting into the right college can be a daunting task, but it can also lead to very rewarding opportunities for career and personal development. There are many national programs and state laws that allow undocumented students to attend the college of their choice. The following guide is intended to help these students navigate the many exciting options available to them in order to achieve their educational goals.

Beyond these legal realities, it is important to remember that many undocumented students are victims of circumstances beyond their control. Most of them were brought to the United States by their parents at a very young age. They have learned English, completed high school, and have integrated into communities considering themselves to be Americans.

Many students believe that their undocumented status will prevent them from attending college. These undocumented students may live in fear of exposure and deportation if they apply. This should not be a concern for prospective college students, as it is against the law for institutions of higher education to report a student’s immigration status without their permission.

The shooting began during an oceanography class where Kazmierczak stormed in at 3:05pm CST.[2] The university issued virtual communiques ordering all faculty and students to seek shelter and avoid the vicinity of the campus.[3]

Kazmierczak shot the class instructor, who was above the atrium, who attempted to flee through the south door, which was under lock and key. He then attempted to escape through the east exit of the auditorium, through which many students were trying to flee. Many of the students who did not have time to escape hid under their seats. When Kazmierczak stopped firing three rounds of ammunition and stopped to reload, several students shouted «He’s reloading!» and fled the scene. Others stayed in their places due to shock.[8] One of the wounded students, Maria Christensen, later became a police officer at Northern Illinois University.[13] She was shot and killed.

After firing the six shotgun shells, Kazmierczak fired with his Glock 19 9mm pistol, firing about 50 rounds of ammunition. The young man walked through the auditorium repeatedly, shooting those he met in his path. He eventually committed suicide by shooting himself in the head before police arrived. Police recovered 55 rounds of unspent ammunition from the scene, including two fully loaded magazines containing rounds for a .380 semi-automatic pistol.[8]
