Financial Aid for Hispanic Students
Family obligations present another challenge for Hispanic students. A 2014 survey by National Journal found that two-thirds of Hispanic women and men who sought full-time work or joined the military after completing high school expressed doing so to help their loved ones financially. In comparison, only 39% of white women and men who did not attend college said the same.
However, many schools classify undocumented students as «aliens,» which removes their ability to be eligible for federal financial aid and reduced in-state tuition rates.
Read our Guide for Undocumented Students in Higher Education to learn more about the various resources available to help this population pursue higher education.
Students in the U.S. must be classified as permanent residents before they can receive financial aid. Most immigrants obtain permanent residency by applying for a Green Card, but current laws stipulate that undocumented citizens cannot do that; instead, they must leave the U.S. and apply for permanent residency from the consulate of their home country.

Introduction: Recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) is used in patients with Turner syndrome (TS), Prader Willi syndrome (PWS), chronic kidney disease (CKD), small for gestational age (SGA), and growth hormone deficiency (GHD) to restore short stature in the affected pediatric population. Due to its high price and variable effectiveness, cost-effectiveness economic evaluations that estimate both the costs and potential benefits of treatment are required.
Materials and Methods: Cost-effectiveness study, based on a decision tree model from the perspective of the third party payer for the use of pharmacological treatment with rhGH. Direct costs were valued in Colombian pesos for 2019, using the tariff manuals of the Central Military Hospital (HOMIL). Effectiveness was defined as a decrease of at least 0.5 SD (standard deviation) vs. SD of parental height in children aged 4 to 18 years with short stature, who received treatment with rhGH at HOMIL from 2013 to 2015. Average and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios were estimated and univariate sensitivity analyses were performed. Quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) were also calculated in a hypothetical cohort of 100 patients.
