You may be entitled to maternity pay if you are employed or self-employed, even if you only work a few hours a week, or if you have left your job or changed jobs.    For more information on maternity pay, see: Maternity Pay Questions.

Universal Credit replaces the following Legacy Benefits, Jobseekers Allowance, income-related Employment Support Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit. These older benefits are now called «legacy benefits». You cannot make a new claim for legacy benefits on or after January 27, 2021, other than Housing Benefit, which you can claim if you are in temporary homeless or specifically supported housing.

If you are currently receiving legacy benefits, such as Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit, you can continue to receive those benefits unless you need to reapply. You will lose your legacy benefits if you apply for Universal Credit, you will not be able to claim them again. It is very important to make sure you are going to be better off on Universal Credit before you make a claim, since you cannot get back to legacy benefits even if you claim Universal Credit by mistake.
