At El Colegio de la Frontera Norte he has been General Academic Secretary, Director of the Department of Population Studies, Director of Graduate Studies, General Director of Liaison and interim President. He is currently Professor-Researcher and Director of the Department of Population Studies.
He was president of the Mexican Society of Demography 2002-2004; member of the Citizen Population Advisory Council for Population Policy; member of the Advisory Council of the National Institute of Migration; founding member of the Institute of Studies and Dissemination on Migration, A.C., and member advisor of the International Community Foundation (FIC). His main area of study is population and development of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Dr. Gladys E. Maestre is the director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center for Minority Aging Research, which represents half of the collaboration that makes up the new Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center of South Texas.
Dr. Sudha Seshadri is the director of the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s Disease at UT Health Science Center, which represents half of the collaboration that makes up the new South Texas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
The River Pierce Foundation in San Ygnacio, Texas, which works to preserve historic architecture on the border, is one of the organizations Maestre has contacted to further study the social and economic characteristics of the region.
