The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands arose from the merger of two interrelated disciplines: aeronautical engineering and space engineering. Aeronautical engineering deals with topics related to aircraft or aeronautics. Astronautical engineering works specifically with space vehicles or astronautics. At the School of Aerospace Engineering both fields are treated in parallel to other disciplines such as wind energy.
Over time, the Faculty has adapted to the growing demands of the aerospace industry by expanding its facilities and laboratories. Currently, the Faculty has a student body of approximately 2300 undergraduate and graduate students, a faculty of 237 professors and 181 PhD students[1].
Current research areas include innovative aerospace materials, particle image velocimetry, CubeSat and many others. There are currently ten research chairs grouped into four departments:[3]
