Bhaskar Vira is an Indian academic, Professor of Political Economy and current Vice-Chancellor for Education at the University of Cambridge.[1] From 2019 to 2022 he was Head of the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge.[2] He was the founding Director of the University of Cambridge Conservation Research Institute and is a Fellow of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge . [3][4] In 2018, he was awarded the Busk Medal by the Royal Geographical Society for his contributions in the fields of environment, development and economics.[5] In 2021, he was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences for his contributions to the social sciences.[6] He is a member of the Academy of Social Sciences.
Vira was born in New Delhi, India and was educated at The Doon School in Dehradun .[7] After Doon, he went to St. Stephen’s College, Delhi for a B.A. in economics and then obtained a second B.A. at St. John’s College, Cambridge . He then stayed on at Cambridge for an MA and PhD in economics and political economy, respectively.

Director of the Center for Studies on Security and Drugs (CESED), associate professor of the School of Economics at the Universidad de los Andes and founding member of the Center for Sustainable Development Goals for Latin America and the Caribbean (CODS). He is an economist from the Universidad de los Andes and has a Ph.D. in Natural Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
He is an associate professor at the Alberto Lleras Camargo School of Government at the Universidad de los Andes. His research focuses on the behavior of armed groups involved in armed conflicts, politically motivated violence, criminality, historical influences on contemporary circumstances, electoral dynamics in divided societies and state building.
D., full professor at the Universidad de los Andes and corresponding member of the Colombian Academy of Physical, Exact and Natural Sciences, ACCEFYN. He is a marine biologist from Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, with a master’s degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo; he has postdoctoral training at Smithsonian and NIWA (New Zealand). Currently, Professor Sanchez maintains a broad dynamism in several regions of Colombia, interacting with government agencies, NGOs and private enterprise, enhancing the impact of his research and academic work. He is a research associate at CESED leading the coca genome project in Colombia and member of the Wise Men Mission 2019 in the thematic focus ‘Oceans and Hydrobiological Resources’.

Fifty-six students and teachers from the Quito campus received their Cambridge International and Cambridge English Proficiency certificates; the ceremony was coordinated by the Quito campus Language Institute.
The event was attended by José Juncosa, vice rector of the Quito campus, Adriana Guanuche, coordinator of the Language Institute, Julia Watson and Cristian Vásquez, representatives of Cambridge Ecuador and Alex Escobar of Education First.
Finally, Watson commented that «we represent the University of Cambridge, whose mission is to expand knowledge, research and academic development worldwide through the use of English. Today we see our results among those who have achieved these levels.
